Program
:  Tonight's program was held at Medina General Hospital for the Wine and Cheese check presentation.  Guests from the hospital were Gary Hallman, President and CEO of the Hospital, Geri Douglas, Director of the Foundation and Lynn Reig, Manager of Physical Therapy.  Bill Breck started things out giving us a little history on Rotary's partnership with the hospital which dates back to 1984. It has become the social event marking the end of summer.
Gary Hallman expressed his thanks on behalf of the hospital and was glad they had the foresight to build the "party porch" for the Wine and Cheese.  Lynn Reig offered her thanks for the treadmills on behalf of the Physical Therapy Department and the Cardiology Department.  Medina Hospital receiver the first Gait Trainer & Body Deweighter Treadmill in the Country that has the frame offset system which enables the therapist to access the patient's legs and help with the gait pattern.  Several patients have used the new equipment and had great results.

Kudos to Bijay and Roy for their large volume of ticket sales.  This year we raised $11,000; which is great with the economy where it is.
Also, special thanks to Geri Douglas and her staff for all of their help in the coordination.
EXTRA BIG THANKS TO BILL BRECK AND MICHELLE ROGERS for co-chairing the Wine and Cheese this year and agreeing to do a repeat performance next year.

Nine Critical Paths to The Successful Stagnation of a Service Club by John Myers, Chief Chopper, 1966
(stagnation: not flowing or running in a stream; being motionless, becoming torpid, inactive or dull)

FIRST:  RESIST CHANGE.  Be satisfied with the way things are; with the way things have been.  Forget entirely that your club, your organization, your country was founded by individuals who wanted (of all things) change!

SECOND:  Elect a Board of Directors, but keep a tight rein; don't permit a major discussion by the board to go unchallenged; insist on their discussing important issues with the membership before acting in their official capacity; in a word--reduce the board to a mere figurehead.

THIRD:  Tell it like it "was".  Reject this new-fangled philosophy of telling it like it "is"; instead remind new and old members alike how it was in the beginning and in the early days.

FOURTH:  Be Content with the status quo.  If you've drifted along the past 10 to 15 years on a near static income and managed to make a few donations here and spread a little cheer there, be satisfied.  Why try to do more than you did 15 years ago.

FIFTH:  Keep SERVICE foremost in mind.  (Service by the host, Service by the waitresses)  Afterall, SERVICE is your prime reason for existing as a club…….so get your share.

SIX:  Be argumentative.  If a member is so brazen as to suggest a project which will require funds beyond the club's anticipated income….say something like----"You'd better figure out first how you intend to finance such a project."  On the other hand, if some member is desirous of sparking activity to raise money over and above anticipated income ….counter the proposal with the good old standby …"You'd better come up with some project first which will be worthy of the extra effort."  Either of these arguments may be followed by referring to #4 above.

SEVENTH:  Embarrass your president and fellow members by airing "dirty linen" and/or making snide remarks in earshot of visitors and guests.

EIGHTH:  Be an individual.  Avoid the impression of being a team or of pulling together as a team.  Each has his own individual make-up, likes and dislikes, do's and don'ts, wills and wants...stick by them and don't attempt to acquaint with the other person's views.  Let him go his way and you go yours.

NINTH:  Having read something like the first eight steps enumerated above, be honest and sincere enough in your hypocrisy to say to yourself, "Thank God he's not talking about me."
